The Department of Communication has extensive technological resources and a commitment to providing students with access to current media technologies. The department houses a five camera, 1600 square foot television studio. In 2006, the college joined with the City of Westfield to bring the city's PEG channels to the college, and the studio now serves as the main hub for the public access cable channel in Westfield. A number of local access programs, including programs featuring the Westfield public schools and the local state representative are taped in the studio each month. In 2007, the college entered into a partnership with WGBY, the public television station in Springfield, MA, to co-produce the venerable high school game show As Schools Match Wits, now taped in our studio and broadcast weekly on WGBY. The studio is also home to WSC-TV, a student organization which produces programming for the campus cable channels. In addition to the studio, the department maintains digital video, audio, multimedia, and desktop/online publishing workstations for students, as well as digital camcorders and field production equipment. |
