Dr. Wefing's Personal Site

Henry Wefing has a bachelor's degree from St. Peter's College, a master's degree from Duke University, and a doctorate from the University of Massachusetts at Amherst. He joined the Westfield State faculty in 1985 after 20 years as a newspaper reporter and editor in New Jersey and North Carolina.

He teaches the major core course, "Writing for the Media," and a variety of journalism courses. Among his favorite courses are "Opinion and Editorial Writing" (he is a former editorial writer) and "Long-form Journalism" (he has studied literary journalism for more than two decades).
He has often served as chair of the department's Curriculum Committee, and he has been a member of the university Curriculum Committee for the last 10 years. During a sabbatical in the fall of 2009, he studied multimedia storytelling and did an informal internship in the newsroom of a local newspaper.
